    • Marina Guidelines With the growth of the Tourism Industry and the rapid growth of the cruise ship industry in the last five years there has been an increase demand for marina services where tender vessels, yachts, and other boats could moor and be offered safe harborage, and other supporting services. The Department of the Environment therefore, with a mind to regulate these types of activities, has developed these guidelines to mitigate the adverse environmental impact associated with these types of activities.
    • National Guidelines for Overwater Structures
    • For several years, the Department of the Environment (DOE) and the National Environmental Appraisal Committee (NEAC) has received numerous applications for the construction and operation of overwater structrues, specifically, overwater cabanas, villas, restaurants and bars. These structures have been proposed primarily for tourism purposes and are located in the coastal areas such as the offshore cayes, riverbanks and lagoons. The DOE and NEAC recognzie that developments of this nature should be conducted in a prudent and regulated manner and have embarked in the development of guidelines that are intended to assit in determining where, how and what type of structures can be allowed throughout the country.
    • Crop Protection Product Packaging Disposal Guidelines
    • The purpose of this document is to outline the approved method for the recovery and disposal of crop protection product packaging that would prevent, control, and mitigate the negative environmental impacts that could arise from activities related to the disposal of crop protection product packaging (pesticides containers.)

    • The purpose of this document is to outline the approved method for the recovery and disposal of crop protection product packaging that would prevent, control, and mitigate the negative environmental impacts that could arise from activities related to the disposal of crop protection product packaging (pesticides containers.)

    • Environmental Code of Practice for Automotive Spray Painting
    • This environmental code of practice is intended to provide guidance to owners and operators of automotive spray painting premises as to the likely environmental impacts associated with the industry and the acceptable methods of control.

    • Draft Environmental Health and Sanitation Guidelines for the Fiberglass Industry
    • The small-scale fiberglass industry is becoming increasingly popular in Belize as can be seen by the cropping up of many commercial fiberglass-related businesses, such as boatyards, throughout the country. Several health issues associated with the fiberglass industry, which are not limited to exposure to fiberglass but also to other substances that are often utilized along with it. As a result, this industry has created a serious problem since the majority of these businesses are located within or near residential zones.
      Clearly, the development of the following guidelines and operational standards for the use of fiberglass in small industries in Belize is critical.

    • Environmental Guidelines for Depots and Distribution Outlets for Liquified Petroleum Gases (Lpg)
    • The purpose of this document is to propose measures that would prevent, control, and mitigate the environmental degradation that could arise from activities related to the establishment and operation of storage depots and major distribution outlets for compressed inflammable gases.

    • Environmental Guidelines For Service Stations
    • These Guidelines are for Operational Standards which are provided for environmentally acceptable functioning of the service station. Operators are contractually bound to manage their service stations according to these standards.

    • PROCEDURES MANUAL FOR THE PREPARATION OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT IN BELIZE The EIA Procedures dealt with in these Guidelines addresses the following matters: - the statutory basis for EIA (this deals with the relevant statutory provisions of the Environmental Protection Act, the Mines and Minerals Act and the National Lands Act); - the implications of the EIA Procedures; - the relationship of the EIA Procedures to the existing permitting agencies and the nature of the permits being issued; - preparation of the terms of reference of the EIA; - the contents of the EIA report; - the determination of the need for public hearings; - the composition of the Review Committee; - the submission of the EIA to the Review Committee for evaluation; - the decision to approve or reject the EIA; - the appeal procedures when the project has not been approved; - monitoring and compliance.

    • BELIZE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION PLAN The Belizean economy is highly dependent on industries based on environmental resources: agriculture, fisheries and tourism. These constitute the backbone of the Belizean economy, and their rapid expansion explains in part the remarkable rates of economic growth experienced by Belize since 1985. In order to continue this rapid expansion, Belize must maintain its environmental resources at a healthy level.

    • GUIDE FOR DEVELOPERS The Guide for Developers outlines the various statutory provisions governing the grant of permission for development. The Guide also sets out the legal and institutional framework within which applications for planning and development permissions are determined and identifies the general objectives of planning for development.
